Cast Cattle - Once again the generosity of Darlington's friends and family were the stand out memories made today as the eagerly anticipated new mart opened, Michael and Angela Robinson of M Robinson & Sons, East Alwent Farm, Staindrop produced the first beast in the ring and kindly donated half of the 32 month old British Blue Heifers value to the MIND Charity in memory of Stephen Aitken. The fantastically finished heifer was eagerly bid for from all corners of the ring and eventually sold to, friends and great supporters of DFAM, The Worsley Family of Briestfield, West Yorkshire for 490ppk and £3297; what followed was an unexpected and incredible gesture of kindness when the instructions which came from Worsley HQ were to then re-sell the heifer to the benefit of the MIND Charity again, on the second occasion she sold for 350ppk and £2355, the generous winning bid this time around came from another good supporter of DFAM, Woolley Brothers of Sheffield.
The cow trade in general was very good, away from the aforementioned superstar the same Staindrop stable produced another OTM at 230ppk whilst the top priced cow per kilo came from J Richmond, Dunsa Bank Farm, Dalton at 190ppk with a 6 year old Bazadaise. The top grossed valued cow on the day came from J L Marks, Gilly Flatts Farm, Bishopton with a tremendous 7 year old Limousin.
