Store Cattle – The stores this week were a flyer, as has been the case of late the smaller grass types were very easily sold however what we may not have so easily predicted was the definitive lift apparent for the shorter keep cattle. Leading the steer trade at £1160 was a brut of a British Blue steer from G Wall, Westerhope Burn Farm, Eastgate; so very well grown for his 19 months one could only assume that he has had access to a nose bag from an award winning café. Top priced heifer on the day was again a strong well fed sort, regular vendor D R Smith, East Roughlea Farm, Ferryhill produced a shapely 23 month old British Blonde heifer which sold for £1060. The top priced young bull on the day came from F M Suddes, China Hall, Rowley as a 14 month old Charolais realised £1075, in general more life was apparent in the bull trade as 19 of the 25 sold beyond £800.
