Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their weekly sale of cast cattle and store stock on Monday 12th June 2023. Forward were 257 cattle.

77 Cast Cows & OTM sold to 252ppk or £2135

Cast Cattle – Dearer on the week, far less OTM’s than often seen proved that age makes little difference as the collective achieved a soaring sale average of over 200ppk and a very healthy £1323. Top price per kilo was a shapely 4-year-old British Blue cow from C Bell, The Pry, Forest-in-Teesdale when she sold for 252 pence, eight Limousin’s followed her home selling between 232ppk and 246ppk. Two cows sold over £2100, a thumping Simmental from P & C M Graham, Dyance Farm, Gainford reached £2130 however this week’s winner was an excellent 10-year-old 905kg Limousin from C Stafford, Dene House Farm, Houghton-le-Spring at £2135. Native breed prices were headed by the Aberdeen Angus of J Bennison, Warden Law when topping at 226ppk and £1593 whilst the finest Friesian in town was a 32-month-old from C N & P Penk, Little Stainton when she sold for 230ppk and £1354. Just three stock bulls this week and a top trio they were indeed averaging 224ppk and £2116, top of the list was a superb 7-year-old Limousin from W J Smith & Partners, Richmond selling for 232ppk and £2234.

Store Cattle – A brilliant bull trade kicked off proceedings with three vendors reaching the dizzy heights of £1500; a top trio of 9-11-month-old Charolais and Simmental’s from E Parsons, Newstead joined a cracking 10-month-old Limousin from D W Humphrey, Capon Hall Farm at exactly £1500 however top of the shop was a fine 22-month-old Limousin cross bull from T & D I Allen & Son, Chatterley Farm which sold for £1520. A mixed show of stores met strong demand, best of the bunch was a brilliant 17-month-old Limousin heifer from M R Madrell, School Cottage which sold for £1500, close behind were other Limousin heifers; at £1420 came a smart 14-month-old from C T Gibson, Elm Bank Cottage with a remarkable sort from D W Humphrey, Capon Hall Farm was next in line at £1390 which is quite some return for just 7 months of age. The top eight steers were also just youngsters and all aged 10 to 13 months, top of the list at £1300 was a smart 12-month-old Limousin from N B & R Hird, Gillfield.
