Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their 'Stars of the Future' show and sale of Store Cattle in conjunction with their weekly sale of Cast, Store and Breeding Cattle on Monday 29th April 2019. Forward were 808 head.

Cast Cattle - A large show in no way detracted from a truly great trade for all classes once again averaging a wonderful 132ppk throughout. Top price of 175 pence per kilo was shared between two vendors this week as a 9 year old British Blue from E Wilson of White Hills Farm, Richmond and a 31 month old Limousin shown by A & A G Moralee, Lowfield Farm, Willington shared the spoils. Top gross value by some margin was a fantastic 9 year old pure British Blonde cow from P Weightman & Sons, Hallfield Farm, Easington when she tipped the scales to 1031kg and sold for 157ppk realising a mighty £1618. Not many stock bulls this week were also like the cows in high demand, an absolute brut of an Aberdeen Angus from J M Shotton, Catlow Hall, Hartbushes weighed in at 1283kg and returned a gross value of £1565, the days leading dairy cow was from C N & P Penk, Pitfield Farm, Little Stainton which sold for 141ppk and £964.

Show Cattle - A fine show of beast were presented before judge Keith Metcalf of Meadow View, Bolam for the morning show, the champion was a fabulous 12 month old British Blue steer from D & M Lowes of Wilson House, Barningham with the reserve a very classy 10 month old Limousin heifer from W Wearmouth & Son, Rose Hill Farm, Eastgate; winner of the young bull class was a smart 12 month old red Limousin from D & P H Brown, Cordilleras Farm, Aldbrough-St-John.

Store Cattle - A massive show of cattle were offered through our store ring, a staggering increase of 38% on the corresponding sale last year resulted in one of the busiest April days ever on Clifton Road. A packed house with 65 active ringside accounts in operation created a truly mesmerising trade throughout with our 95 vendors leaving more than happy, trade remarkably held strong for the 6 hour duration of the sale and many vendors reported notable increases on their 2018 returns. On such a busy day it was no mean feat for J A & UM Fawcett of Manor House, Marske, Richmond to achieve the top priced beast on the day with their 16 month old Limousin steer which sold for £1220, leading the heifer trade was a fantastic 23 month old Limousin from regular supporters W B Rutter & Sons which sold for £1170 whilst the top priced young bulls were a pair of strong 13 month old Limousin's from D Elstob, Mill Hill Farm, Deighton. Earl in the day a lovely 8 year old Limousin cow with her 5 month old heifer calf at foot from R D Musgrave, Edder Acres Farm, Shotton Colliery sold for £1900.
