Show Cattle - Mr James Crichton kindly made the journey across the Pennines from Egremont in Cumbria to capably carry out the judging duties, regular winners 'The Stones Family' of Nun Cote Nook Farm, Marrick were once again in fine form taking home both the Champion and Reserve rosettes plus a host of both cash prizes and bags of feed from our kind sponsors I'Anson Feeds. The champion was a sensational 11 month old British Blue heifer sired by Lune Valley Forrester, a real carcase machine she was sold for the days top price of £1500 to M Robinson & Sons, East Alwent Farm, Staindrop. The Reserve Champion from the same home was the deserved winner of the Limousin steer class, the stylish little black bullock also 11 months of age also sold to Messrs Robinson of Staindrop for £1150. Some wonderful young bulls on show were again placed by Mr Crichton, the winner came from an outstanding run of 10-12 month old Limousin's from Messrs Pearson of Cliff Hollins Farm who had made the early morning journey North East all the way from Bradford, he sold for an impressive £1200 to A S & S M Kemp, Whitwell Farm, Sherburn.

Store Cattle - A big show was offered for our February special sale, an impressive 43% increase in numbers from the corresponding sale of 2018 in no way detracted from a wonderful trade from start to finish, over 60 active ringside accounts ensured a pleasing 99.5% clearance rate as a host of delighted vendors left Clifton Road, the steers levelled at £892, heifers £820 and young bulls £827 all seeing roughly a £20 per head increase on the year. The show champion as reported above topped the sale however special mention must be made of an outstanding 21 month old British Blue heifer from W B Rutter & Sons of Greengill Farm, Scargill which caught the eye as a real cow maker of two buyers and went on to sell for an impressive £1375. Top priced steer of the day was a strong 27 month old Limousin from J G Wilkinson & Son, West Side, Staindrop whilst a host of young bulls sold comfortably in to four figures on the day.

Cast Cattle - On the whole a plainer show of cows this week pulled the average down to 107ppk however the well fleshed continue to add up rather nicely, top price per kilo was a smart Limousin OTM from T & D I Allen & Son, Chatterley Farm, Wolsingham when she sold for an impressive 170 pence per kilo; leading gross valued cow was a well fed 10 year old British Blue cow from J L Marks, Gilly Flatts Farm, Bishopton which amassed an impressive £1265 to M Worsley, Briestfield. The pick of the black and white cows this week came from Little Newsham Farms whom twice sold around £940 whilst the stock bull trade was led by a big Aberdeen Angus from A & A G Moralee, Lowfield Farm, Willington which sold for an incredible £1425 to N Bramall & Son, South Yorkshire.

Store & Breeding Sheep - Numbers are slipping away now as the store hoggs are drying up, the trade remains fast and furious with the feeders still keen to buy more. Top priced store hogg was a single Texel from S J Love, Low Doctor Pasture, Wolsingham which sold for £91 closely followed by a pen of 6 from the same home at £89. A scattering of breeding sheep were a mixed trade with the better end continuing to sell well, leading price was £110 for a Texel ewe scanned with Triplets from W Wearmouth & Son, Rose Hill Farm, Eastgate.
