Show Cattle - Mr Paul Jackson of Carnaby House Farm made the journey from East Yorkshire to kindly judge the show classes and carried out his duties impeccably; little doubt in anyone's mind that he chose the right winner as the tri coloured rosette and 'Anna Thompson' canvas were awarded to Keith Stones and family of Nun Cote Nook, Marrick in Richmondshire with an outstanding 8 month old British Blue heifer calf. Undoubtedly this jet black daughter of Lune Valley Forester (a Bringlee Volkawagon son) has all the makings of a show beast for next summer and in the long term she has real potential to become a tremendous suckler cow herself, many onlookers on the day certainly felt that she was one of the best calves the ever consistent Stones clan have produced and she thoroughly deserved her £1600 price tag; the presentation as usual from the younger generation at Nun Cote Nook was noticeably exceptional. Choosing the reserve champion proved an altogether more difficult task as our judge was certainly surrounded by some excellent calves, coming out victorious was a tremendous 10 month old Limousin steer from another of our regular winners Nigel Swinbank of Cold Comfort Farm, Neasham which sold for £1100 to Ricky Alder of M F Hall, Woodhill Farm, Ponteland.

Cast Cattle - A two tier trade is developing in the geld cow ring at the moment as the well fleshed beast are in plenty of demand however some of the leaner, older and weathered cows are harder to sell, thus said an average of 106ppk throughout was more than satisfactory. Top price on the day came from J R & M Richardson of Etherley House, Winston with a well fleshed 31 month old Limousin which sold to Worsley Wholesale Limited for 188 pence per kilo, she also produced the leading gross value of the day at a whopping £1479.
