Cast Cattle - Less cows forward this week; a sharper trade was evident as the average remained the same with a large percentage of those offered dairy breeds. Top price of 169 pence per kilo was achieved by a wonderful 38 month old Limousin consigned by J E & A J Mitchell, Parrick House, Marwood and the leading gross value came in the shape of a 872kg eight year old Aberdeen Angus cow from R E Dickson of Upsall Grange Farm, Nunthorpe which sold for £1090, both beast headed to J A Jewitt Ltd, Spennymoor. Dairy cows were plentiful this week and peaked at 112 pence per kilo from Little Newsham Farms and £914 from Peter Barton, New Heaton Farm, Cornhill on Tweed.

Store & Breeding Cattle - A mixed bag on offer this week following last weeks show calves, the short keep cattle are a fine trade as are the better quality young beast, some plainer sorts would struggle slightly as the winter feed shortage is still holding some buyers back a little. The sale began well with a tremendous 9 year old Limousin cow and her 6 month old heifer calf from L Booton of Manor Farm, Thornton Steward selling for £1420. No strong bulls this week saw the sale topper come from regular supporter A W Sanderson of East Holling Carr Farm, Trimdon with a shapely British Blonde reaching £710. The top priced steer in the sale was a tremendous 19 month old Aberdeen Angus from another Darlington regular D R Smith of East Roughlea Farm, Ferryhill when he reached an impressive £1175, a good show of strong steers saw no less than 15 sell beyond £1100. A good day for the Aberdeen Angus breed was completed when a strong 23 month old heifer from H Thompson, Coatham Lane Farm, Whiley Hill set the pace selling for £1110.
