Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their weekly sale of Store Sheep on Tuesday 16th October 2018. Forward were 1480 head.
1260 Store Lambs sold to £75
40 Ewe Lambs sold to £71.50
179 Feeding Ewes sold to £82.50
1 Breeding Ram sold for £80
A fine trade throughout, in particular the strong lambs were selling beyond expectations as vendors of store sheep enjoy a much healthier return than the current prime trade might suggest. Top price on the day of £75 was achieved twice, a single black Texel lamb from M Jopling & Son, Low Wisley Farm, Wolsingham matched the price set just minutes before for a pen of 41 tight skinned Texel's from A & R Thompson of Dimmingdale Farm, Moorsholm. Buyers were keen to secure the biggest and the best with plenty of lambs selling well over £60 throughout the sale, feeding ewes were also a fine trade with confidence seemingly high amongst the winter feeders.
