Show Cattle - Judge Ricky Alder of M F Hall, Woodhill Farm, Ponteland kindly accepted the invitation to judge and capably carried out his duties, tapped out as his champion was a smart black 11 month old Limousin steer (picture attached) from N Swinbank of Cold Comfort Farm, Neasham; backing his judgment by later purchasing the steer for £1110. Reserve Champion on the day came from B & J Donald of Gibbs Neese Farm, Staindrop with a fabulous 16 month old Limousin heifer; she headed back to Staindrop with buyer M Robinson & Sons of East Alwent Farm for £1270. Scooping all three prizes in the young bulls were C & E Gaskin of Hillingdon Farm, Barnard Castle as their trio of 10 month old Simmentals all sold to R M & B Teasdale of Brow Farm, Scagglethorpe.

Store Cattle - The first large offering of the Autumn saw 47 active buyers operating from all over England as the horror stories of a shortage in winter fodder as yet are not affecting the trade. A wonderful day for regular supporters B & J Donald, Gibbs Neese Farm as mentioned above they scooped the Reserve Champion ticket with the days best heifer, they followed that accolade with the days top price achieved by a fantastic 18 month old Limousin steer which sold for £1300 to M Armitage, Southfield Farm, Salton. Leading the bull trade were a quartet from W T Hall of Humber Hill Farm, Lanchester who achieved a top price of £1110 for a 16 month old Charolais which sold to J A & M Boyes Ltd, Strathmore House, Cleatlam.

Cast Cattle - A mixed show of cows returned a healthy average over 120ppk with as usual buyers for all classes at ringside. Leading the way was a tremendous 4 year old Limousin from D & M Lowes, Wilson House, Barningham which sold for 199ppk; top of the gross value race was a belting 10 year old British Blue from P Tindale, Paradise Farm, Shadforth when she amounted to an impressive £1359. A young Black and White from A R & C Booth led the dairy cow trade selling for an incredible 159ppk whilst the top gross valued milker was a 9 year old from Barton Rose Holsteins, Richmond which sold just over £1000.

Rams - The ram trade here continues as it seems to be in most places like the XFactor boot camp, some leave happy and some are going home. Irish eyes were smiling this week on Cyril Dougherty of Horsley View, Kirkby Misperton as he took a share of top spot with a fabulous Charollais shearling which was bought by J K & C E Farming, Blue House Farm, Piercebridge for 520 guineas, at the same price was a fabulous Beltex crossed Texel from R & W Todd, High Toft Hill Farm selling to A S & G Donaldson, Little Langton Grange. Top priced lamb came from P Lupton of Greenholme Farm, Galphay with a monster of a December born Suffolk bought by K & M Elders & Son for 450 guineas.
