Cast Cattle - A great show of quality and quantity produced a mouth-watering average over 127 pence per kilo; leading the way was a fantastic 10 year old Limousin cow which sold for 187ppk and £1398, this wonderful beast certainly made the journey all the way from North Ghyll Farm, Farndale a worthwhile one for first time vendors R E & B J Potter. Some great stock bulls certainly took little selling as they peaked at an impressive 142 pence twice and a whopping £1508 from T L Holmes & Son, White House Farm, Craghead. Dairy cows were also a flying trade the pick of them coming from C N & P Penk, Pitfield Farm, Little Stainton when they reached 143ppk with one and £1019 with her stable mate.

Store & Breeding Cattle - An exceptional trade once again for the younger grazing beast and as always plenty of life in the prices for both the biggest and the best, some value for money perhaps in the shape of the dairy bred beast however on the whole still a very prosperous day for all vendors. Proceedings started well as the handful of breeding cattle produced a top price of £1600 for a smart British Blue Heifer with a calf at foot from R T & G C Headley, Beech Farm, York; the young bulls followed suit as all classes sold very well, the pick of them a 12 month old British Blue from T L Holmes & Son, White House Farm, Craghead sold for £1140. A wonderful top end to the store cattle forward this week led to some very high prices, D R Easton of Low Ewecote Farm, Bilsdale sold an 18 month old British Blue Steer for £1245 while a further 3 vendors surpassed the £1100 barrier on the day, our top priced lot was in fact this week a heifer; a 22 month old Limousin from R L Walker, East High Wood, Langleydale had reached an impressive £1260 when the hammer fell.

Store Hoggs - The trade quite simply has to be seen to be believed, any amount of demand for all classes with this week the strong hoggs returning some phenomenal prices. Top of the tree were a pen of 11 wonderful Suffolk's from D W Dresser, Hall Farm, Greatham which sold for £97 per head; this almost made the £94 achieved by Messrs Cator's continental lambs pale in to insignificance.
