Store Cattle – A fabulous trade throughout, the booming prime cattle trade is clearly a factor, It would also appear that the great straw shortage of 2021 might not be as bad as once feared, add to this simmering pot the arrival of many people’s brown envelope’s from the RPA and voila, the store trade is electric. First in the ring today were the breeding cattle which peaked at £1070 for a 23 month old in calf Simmental heifer from Dromonby Bridge Farm Ltd, she sold to I R Appleton of Pudding Poke Farm, Elwick. The young bulls followed and found plenty of buyers and a very fast trade indeed, top of the shop was a strong Limousin from R Valks of Field House Farm selling for £1160, he was closely followed by a 12 month old from B R Lawson, Buddle House Farm at £1130; the leading weaned bull calf came from the aforementioned show calves of J R Clayton, Bentley Farm, Bradford peaking at £1000 for an 8 month old Limousin.

The younger cattle have certainly taken a price lift, a lovely 9 month old black British Blue heifer from J Brannen, Moorsley Banks Farm today sold for £1080, mark the words of the report writer, she will be a serious contender next Christmas.
