Cast Cattle – 15 active buyers ringside resulted in a wonderful trade again, with vendors from as far and wide as Berwick-Upon-Tweed in the North, Lancaster in the West, Bradford to the South and Whitby to the East all reaping the benefits of this purple patch. The 162 beast averaged a terrific all inclusive 135 pence and £924 with 55 dairy cows included, the milk cows levelled at an amazing 117ppk. Some time may be needed for some of you to digest the leading prices this week; top gross value was a 5 year old Charolais cow which certainly made the journey South worthwhile for J Watson & Co, Bowsden Moor when she amounted to a quite ridiculous £1790, the best pence per kilo was a well fed 49 month old Limousin at 194 from G G Stevenson & Son, Trout Hall, Cleveland; plenty followed her in the 170’s and 180’s as bidding was furious throughout. A splendid trade for the best end of the dairy cows with a terrific run of 20 from Bambers Farm, Lancaster peaking at 140 pence per kilo only bettered by a youngster from R & S Bradley, Quebec at 152ppk; the top gross valued dairy cow was something out of this world from Reveley Farms, Lingdale as she tipped the scales over four figures and amounted to potential centre record for a Holstein of £1318.

Pick of the heifers came from G & E M Nixon, High Brotes, Bowes with a strong 20 month old Aberdeen Angus which sold for £1150.
