Cast Cattle – A very depleted show of all stock this week as only the fearless and the foolish braved the snow, sadly the County Council clearly missed the forecast on Sunday night and a lack of griters and ploughs threw the roads around Darlington in to utter chaos. The happy ice road truckers who chose to make the journey were handsomely rewarded as the cast sale averaged a wonderful 148 pence per kilo and £1040. Top price on the day of 190ppk was shared between two vendors as both C & E Gaskin, Hillingdon Farm, Marwod and D K Barker, Little Ketton Farm, Coatham Munderville both sold fleshy young sorts to F W Douglas, Marishes. Remarkably a quarter of the beast offered sold over £1200 with the sale leader a superb 10 year old Limousin from J E Jordan & Son, The Brocks, Longhirst selling for a mouth-watering £1331. Top priced dairy cow sold for a credible £120ppk and £1040 from G Swinbank & Sons, Breckon Hill, Sedgefield.
