Cast Cattle - A remarkable average of 111ppk this week as the show of cows was largely made up of Holsteins, the dairy breeds were a touch dearer and the lack of beef cows left them in high demand throughout. Top price on the day was achieved by a smart Limousin OTM shown by J Layfield of Nackshivan Farm, Willington when she sold for an impressive 173ppk and £1036; a fine day for Messrs Layfield was rounded off when an 8 year old British Blue Stock Bull sold for 129ppk and £1360; the same home produced a 9 year old Limousin stock bull which also sold for 129ppk and beyond £1300.

Store Cattle - Trade easier for everything apart from the best cattle, the E & U grades are in demand in the prime ring and that is shining brightly in to our store trade at the moment; a large number of dairy bred store cattle this week were not the easiest to sell as the deadweight firms are pulling the price it would seem each and every week. Top priced beast was a wonderful 27 month old Limousin heifer from J G Wilkinson & Son, West Side, Staindrop which sold for £1060; plenty of steers sold on the day in the high £900's however it was the bulls which rung the bell, plenty of buyers as the beast left entire were by far the easiest goods to sell, a top price of £960 was twice achieved by D Walker, High Woodifield Farm East for dairy bred British Blue's and the smaller younger suckler bulls were a wonderful trade throughout. Earlier in the day a fantastic 5 year old British Blue cow with her 2 month old Limousin bull claf at foot from C Bell, The Pry, Forest-in-Teesdale sold well as she reached £1520 and a solitary 2 month old British Blue bull calf from S Sanderson, East Holling Carr sold for £425.
