Cast Cattle - A sharp trade again as the cow trade continues to thrive, the average throughout of 126ppk was indeed healthy and week after week we are achieving these levels at the moment. Top price per kilo was an impressive 165 pence, this went to a wonderful 5 year old British Blue cow from B & J Bainbridge, Cockfield Hall, Cockfield; lead gross value went to a 10 year old Charolais cow from J R P Vickers & Sons, Newton Grange Farm, Sadberge when she accumulated to £1264. Dairy cows remain easy to sell, the tops this week of £1062 and 126ppk both came from W E & C A Anderson of Layton Fields, Caldwell.

Store Cattle - The usual harvest time lull in numbers saw this week a faster trade for all types, an exceptional 12 month old Aberdeen Angus bull from J C Thwaite & Son, Cragg Hill Farm, Lartington led the sale when he reached an impressive £1150. Top priced heifer came from D W Dresser, Hall Farm, Greatham when she sold for £1100 and the leading steer on the day was produced by regular vendors G W & M Singleton & Sons, Farlington Grange, York with a 28 month old Hereford reaching £910.

Store Sheep - Store lambs again sold very well, the average was once again £60 with buyers packing the ringside all seemingly with fields full of grass this time. Top price on the day were a pair of fantastic Texel lambs shown by G H Lister, Holebeck House Farm, Wolsingham when they sold for a tremendous £82. Plenty of strong lambs sold beyond £70 with the majority of long keepers all selling between £55 and £65 per head. A few feeding ewes are beginning to appear now and as with the lambs plenty of buyers are present, a run of 43 Swaledales from J J M Lonsdale averaging over £35 apiece were testament to the sharp trade.
